Burglary: At approximately 7:25 a.m. Mount Vernon Police received a report that a burglary had occurred overnight at a Washington State Department of Corrections office located in the 700 block of South 2nd. Investigation determined that entry had likely been made by forcing a window. Items missing from inside included a hand gun, soft body armor, Nextel phones, photo identification, badge and keys. A white 4-door Dodge Stratus, license number 15485E, registered to the Department of Corrections, was also taken from nearby.

The Department of Corrections stolen vehicle was located at approximately 6:45 PM in the 14000 block of State Route 9, just outside the east city limits of Mount Vernon.
The vehicle was unoccupied and was impounded for evidence processing.

Through this ongoing investigation information was developed which led to the application and service of two search warrants in the 400 block of Norris Street in Burlington, Washington at approximately 12:30 AM on 02-25-05.
Officers contacted seven subjects in the first apartment searched. Three men ages 27, 22 and 18, all of Mount Vernon were arrested on misdemeanor warrants and booked into the Skagit County Jail.
A fourth individual, a 28 year transient was also arrested and booked into the Skagit County Jail on a misdemeanor warrant and a Department of Corrections (DOC) felony warrant. In addition this suspect was also booked for investigation of Burglary 1st degree, Theft 1st degree and Theft of a Firearm all stemming from the DOC Burglary reported on February 23rd.
A search of the first Norris Street apartment resulted in the recovery of several items believed stolen from the DOC Burglary. These items included (DOC) Nextel batteries, lock box, soft body armor, identification, radios, DOC paperwork and more.
In addition, DOC paperwork and a DOC file of the suspect arrested for this burglary was found in two dumpsters located within the apartment complex.
Mount Vernon Police were assisted in this investigation by the Skagit County Sheriff Department, Burlington Police and the Skagit County Interlocal Drug Enforcement Unit.
Nothing was located at the apartment of the second search warrant. This apartment was in the same general area as the first one searched.

On Tuesday July 12th at 6:37 PM Mount Vernon Police Officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of N. 20th Place regarding a subject who had been shot.
Officers arrived and contacted a 24 year old Mount Vernon man who had been shot in the right leg. The victim was taken to Skagit Valley Hospital and later transported to Harbor View Hospital.
The victim's 22 year old brother, also from Mount Vernon, left the scene of the shooting prior to officers arrival and is believed to be the suspect.
The investigation is continuing.
