MOUNT VERNON POLICE DEPARTMENT
On December 24, 2009 at approximately 2:54 AM, Mount Vernon Police Officers responded to a burglary alarm in the 2600 Block of Henson Road. Officers arrived at the business to find the front door shattered but no one was inside.
At approximately 3:55 AM, a second burglary occurred in the 2200 Block of Old Highway 99 South. A lone suspect entered a home through an unlocked door. The homeowner was asleep but was awakened by the intruder. He possessed a knife and stated he was being chased and needed a ride. Fearing for her safety, the victim spoke with the suspect trying to keep the situation calm. Approximately two hours later, he left the residence and the victim was not physically harmed.
Mount Vernon Police were summoned and have spent the last several days collecting evidence from the crime scene, interviewing neighbors, and talking with witnesses. As a result, warrants for Burglary 1st, Burglary 2nd and Kidnapping 1st degree have been issued for Phillip Barrara Garcia (see attached Wanted Notice).
Garcia has lived in the Mount Vernon area; however, his current whereabouts is unknown. Garcia has previous criminal history including offenses for burglary, theft and assault. He is considered armed and potentially dangerous.
Mount Vernon Police are asking for the community's help in locating Mr. Garcia. Anyone who sees or may know his whereabouts is encouraged to contact us by either calling (360) 336-6271 during normal business hours or 911.
