On Monday, December 11, 2006, at approximately 9:00am, the Mount Vernon Police and Fire Departments and Skagit County Medic 1 were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of E. College Way and Continental Place. Reports indicated a motor vehicle had crashed into Sager's Restaurant (1700 Continental Place) located on the northeast corner of the intersection. Approximately 10 customers and several employees were inside the restaurant. Three customers were injured and transported to Skagit Valley Hospital. Preliminary information indicates their injuries are "non-life threatening."
The event began with a collision involving a 1989 Ford Tempo and a 1991 Buick Skylark on E. College Way. The Ford verred off College way, over the sidewalk and struck a 2004 Chevy Silverado Truck before impacting the south wall of the restaurant. The vehicle came to a stop approximately 20 feet inside the restaurants dining area. Numerous tables and booths had been displaced.
The Ford was driven by a 93-year-old Mount Vernon man, and the Buick was driven by a 66-year-old Mount Vernon woman. Neither driver was injured.
Police are continuing their detailed investigation of the accident and the vehicle has been removed from the restaurant. The restaurant is closed at this time.
