As a Block Watch Captain, Sharon has distinguished herself as a model for others. She is proactive in her approach to crime prevention and has consistently worked in partnership with the Mount Vernon Police Department to help identify and resolve community problems.
During the past year, Sharon identified suspicious activity occurring in her neighborhood. Through her relationship with neighbors, Sharon learned that two young girls had encountered a strange man on the walking trail near her home. She alerted Mount Vernon Officers and provided information for follow-up. Officers did contact the suspect and the incident was resolved.
Sharon also met with a neighbor who was witnessing suspicious activity at a rental home. Sharon obtained the information and referred them to the Mount Vernon Police Department. Based on documented behavior and information provided, officers contacted the tenants who were arrested for drug related crimes and promptly evicted.
Sharon is a great example of what a Block Watch Captain's role should be by providing a resource to her neighbors and acting as additional eyes, ears and problem solver for the entire community. Her commitment has helped tremendously in making her neighborhood and the City of Mount Vernon a safe and enjoyable place to live.
